Shadow Glen Stables has been serving the Sacramento, Fair Oaks, Orangevale area for over 30 years. Relocating from the hill on Hazel & Hwy 50 to its current location in approx 1985, it’s nicely nestled in a corner of Mississippi Bar on acreage that is leased from the California State Parks Dept.

Shadow Glen offers a variety of activities to include hourly horse\mule rental, horse boarding, private riding lessons, a summer camp for kids, picnic area and private parties. There is also a small on site tack store (open to the public) with grooming supplies, western tack items and a variety of other western items at great prices.

As you pull in the drive way you can feel the “Old West” and you know you’re in for a great time.

All rides are guided by experienced wranglers, and riders must be at least 8 years old. The full hour guided ride through the State Park down to Lake Natomas and back to the stable is an enjoyable way to see beautiful scenery and a chance of seeing wild turkeys, deer, coyotes, bobcats, fox, and of course the undesirable rattlesnake.

On the sidelines of some of the trails you will see Gold mining history….. the tailings from the gold rush days and you can envision what life was like over 100 years ago.

Those of you that own your own horses are welcome to park in the lower parking lot and enjoy approx 10,000 acres of designated State park horse trails at no charge. If you are really daring, there are actually trails from here all the way to Squaw Valley.

Private Lessons are a full hour one-on-one lesson. Summer horse camp is designed for children ages 8-16 with a maximum number of 10 students each week. In selecting a horse camp for your child, please keep in mind that our instructors are CPR and First aid certified, the riding portion of the camp is not all arena riding, but the students are given the opportunity to use their skills on real trails and enjoy the real western feeling. We caution individuals when selecting a horse camp or lessons for their children to please beware of the backyard horse camps and lessons that operate without required business licenses and that run off their homeowners insurance.

Business hours are 8:30am to 4:30pm – 7 days a week, from April 1 through Nov 1.

If you would like to go riding or take a few lessons, reservations are required and secured with a credit card with a 24 hour cancellation policy. For the safety of our riders we take no more than 6 riders in each group. We do require helmets for anyone under age 17.
